Happy National Tree Week: Our Trees at Solidarity Farm
Between the 24th November till the 2nd of December it is National Tree Week, where the UK celebrates and plant trees to support wildlife, biodiversity and combat climate change. At the farm, trees are at the heart of everything we do, so here’s our small celebration and dedication to trees.
Tree planting with young people
We always enjoy planting trees on the farm with the young people who visit us. They learn how to plant and care for the saplings, it teaches teamwork and patience. In return, we learn from their experience. The young people help us create natural spaces so that we all can enjoy them, and it is always exciting to see their reactions to the growth of the trees planted.
Fun fact: a single mature tree can absorb up to 22 kg of CO₂ per year and produce enough oxygen for two people. (Source: Woodland Trust)
Climbing, exploring, and well being
Beyond planting, our trees are spaces for play, exploration, and imagination. Climbing trees helps children build strength, coordination, and confidence, which has been proven to benefit mental health.
Research shows that children who play in green spaces have lower stress levels and better focus which overall promotes learning.
Sustainability and long-term impact
Every tree we plant contributes to sustainability which we aim to teach our young people to care for nature in this way. Trees provide homes for birds and insects, help prevent soil erosion. This supports our mission of living in harmony with nature.
The beauty of trees
Beyond their environmental impact, our trees make the farm feel alive. With the changing colours through the seasons, creating shelter, and bringing quiet moments of reflection, trees remind us to slow down and appreciate the world around us.
So this National Tree Week, we’re celebrating the trees that make Solidarity Farm such a special place. We also want to celebrate the young people who help them grow. Here’s to planting more roots — for nature, for learning, and for the future.
